Exercise for Fibromyalgia is a wonderful home treatment that can have excellent pain relieving benefits.Fibromyalgia is a complicated condition that causes widespread muscle and joint pain along with extreme fatigue. It affects women much more than men and there is still no consistent agreement on how to best treat it. The pain of Fibromyalgia is often described as a constant dull ache in the muscles. In addition to generalized pain, fibromyalgia is associated with: Extreme fatigue Sleep disturbances Joint stiffness Jaw pain Digestive problems Anxiety Depression Numbness Tingling Muscle twitching Painful menstruation Difficulty concentrating Sensitivity to noises, odors, and lights If you have Fibromyalgia, you may not feel like exercising due to the fatigue of the condition. The good news though, is that even if exercise makes you feel more tired at first, if you stick with it, you will begin feeling less pain and more energy. So even if you dont feel like it, just get started doing some type of activity to get you moving. It doesnt have to be a vigorous aerobics class or heavy weight lifting workout to benefit you.
Which Exercise for Fibromyalgia is Best?
Any exercise for fibromyalgia will benefit you. The most important thing for you to do is choose exercises that you enjoy doing, and that you can stick with for the long term. Exercise for Fibromyalgia gives you some control over your own care and the amount of pain you feel.Youre the only one that knows how much exercise you can handle and which exercises are best for you. One of my favorite exercises is walking. My wife and I walk an hour every day. If youre not used to doing much walking start slow. Try walking for five minutes the first day. Slowly build up to 30 to 45 minutes a day. I like walking because its a weight bearing exercise. Walking will help keep your bones strong and prevent Osteoporosis in addition to helping relieve your Fibromyalgia symptoms.Other exercises that will relieve Fibromyalgia Symptoms include: Swimming, Bicycling, Yoga, Stretching, Tai Chi, and Pilates. Golf, tennis, hiking, and other recreational activities are also healthful. My wife has had fibromyalgia for over 30 years. The chronic pain and stiffness used to make her feel depressed and hopeless. She finds exercise to be a life saver. In addition to walking an hour every day, she also practices yoga daily, and finds it to be very helpful at relieving stiffness and the pain of fibromyalgia. She also lifts light weights three times a week, and feels this has also helped her a great deal. You may need to avoid high impact activities that require jumping up and down such as basketball or certain dances. These could cause an increase in your pain. I recommend swimming all the time. Swimming is a fantastic total body exercise that is very gentle on your joints. Treading water for 10-15 minutes will give you a tremendous total body workout. My mom also suffers from fibromyalgia and she finds relief in Water Therapy Classes. She wears special boots and gloves that create resistance as she moves her arms and legs in the water. She has had total knee replacements to both knees and has trouble walking, but water therapy strengthens and conditions while supporting her weight.
