Fibromyalgia Supplements can be very effective at relieving the widespread pain in your muscles and joints, and the extreme fatigue fibromyalgia causes.

Other symptoms common with fibromyalgia such as trigger points, anxiety, muscle twitching, depression, numbness and tingling, sleep difficulties, and sensitivity to noises, odors, and lights can also be helped with supplements.

The reason you probably need supplements is that much of the prepackaged, pre-made, and fast food in our diets today have been stripped of their nutrients. Even though you may eat enough, you may be undernourished.

If you give your body proper nutrition, you will have the ability to heal yourself from many diseases and conditions including fibromyalgia.

A good diet may not completely heal you from fibromyalgia, but will help tremendously.

An effective Fibromyalgia Supplements should be a whole food supplement, not a synthetic stripped down supplement.

A whole food supplement will provide your body with the essential vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals you are not getting in your diet.

Unfortunately, most supplements sold today are stripped down synthetic vitamins, not whole food vitamins from vegetables and fruits. The reason this is so common is that synthetic vitamins are much cheaper to produce than whole food vitamins are.

If you have a gluten sensitivity, be aware that many supplements use gluten as a filler and the label may not list it as an ingredient. To find out how to make sure supplements don’t contain gluten you can get the book “Living Gluten-Free for Dummies” by Danna Korn at Amazon.com.

Some vitamin supplement makers go to great lengths to provide the highest quality whole food vitamin supplements without dangerous additives and fillers.

You have to make sure the brand of supplement you are taking for fibromyalgia is a natural whole food supplement.

The supplements I used in my practice for 22 years to aid in back pain and inflammation relief, and my wife’s Nutritional Expert recommended for her fibromyalgia, are made by a company called Standard Process. This company has been producing natural whole food supplements since 1929. They control the quality of their ingredients because they grow their own in certified organic farms.

The supplements that were prescribed for my wife and have helped her fibromyalgia symptoms are:

• BIOST (OSTOGEN) 3/day

• CALCIFOOD WAFERS 6/day

• CARDIO-PLUS 6/day

• CATAPLEX F 6/day

• COD LIVER OIL 1 tablespoon/day

• MIN-TRAN 9/day

My wife feels at least 75% of her fibromyalgia symptoms have been relieved. It took 4-6 weeks before she felt significant improvement. She gets a flare-up of symptoms if she over does physical activity, is under increased stress, and when she doesn’t get enough sleep.

She has been taking the same amount of the supplements she was originally prescribed for four months now. Now that it seems she may not improve more than 75% she is going to ask her doctor if she can cut down on the amount of fibromyalgia supplements and still maintain the 75% improvement.

Other Fibromyalgia Supplements

Melatonin – Some of my patients with fibromyalgia have found they got more restful sleep when taking Melatonin before going to bed.

Magnesium - Magnesium is a mineral found in green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. It has been found that magnesium supplements added to diets lacking these foods relieve fibromyalgia symptoms.

Vitamin D – Vitamin D has been found to relieve fibromyalgia symptoms. This Vitamin can be obtained by getting 15-30 minutes of sunlight on your arms and legs 3-4 times a week. If you can’t do this due to climate or other reasons then you should consider a supplement.

B-Complex Vitamin – Many of my patients have told me that taking a multi B vitamin that included B-6 and B-12 helped relieve their fibromyalgia symptoms.

Probiotics – If you have fibromyalgia it is probable that you have some digestive problems. Probiotics are live organisms which improve the health of your digestive tract. A balanced digestive tract will help you fight illness and disease, and will calm your digestive tract.

Before you start taking supplements ask your doctor if the ones you think would help you are safe for you.

Fibromyalgia Supplements may not work as fast as some medications you’ve taken in the past. Be patient. For my wife it took 4-6 weeks before she started noticing positive results. It will take you some time as well. Remember, fibromyalgia supplements are just one of a number of treatments you can be utilizing simultaneously.
