I have been looking for a Good Posture Chair ever since I laid my eyes on the Swedish kneeling chair in the Palmer School of Chiropractic library. I learned very early on that a good chair with proper support could make a world of difference in how my back felt after long periods of sitting. In Chiropractic College we were sitting in class 35 hours a week, and then we had at least another 35 hours sitting while studying. We were actually told we needed to study 2-3 hours for every hour of class time, but that would have gotten ridiculous, sitting 15-20 hours a day 7 days a week.
Bottom line, then and now, is a good posture chair allows you to put in the long hours of sitting needed for your job, school, or just relaxing at the computer or reading a book. You probably don’t realize that sitting in a chair is three times as stressful on your back as standing, and eleven times as stressful as lying on your back. I have a Herman Miller ergonomic chair that cost me over a thousand dollars 25 years ago. Today that chair costs almost three thousand dollars! I would still recommend that chair but I’m afraid it may cost too much for a lot of people. I recently came across Gaiam’s Balance Ball Chair. This is a chair that improves spinal alignment, provides ergonomic back support, and strengthens your abdominal muscles. It is very cool looking and the price can’t be beat at under $100. Like I said earlier, the chair I fell in love with in Chiropractic College was a Swedish Kneeling Chair. I am looking for one of these I can recommend as well as other great ergonomic chairs that won’t break your bank.
