Which Lumbar Back Support Pillow Is Best For You?

I have recommended patients purchase a Lumbar Back Support Pillow ever since 1983 when I saw my first patients in the Palmer College of Chiropractic Public Clinic.

In addition to getting your spine functioning as well as possible with chiropractic adjustments, supporting your spine with a lumbar back support pillow will go a long way toward relieving you of back soreness and pain.

Why You Need a Lumbar Pillow

If you need to sit for long periods of time at your job, in your car, or at home, you are putting a lot of stress on your lower back.

Most people don’t realize that sitting is three times more stressful on lower backs than standing is. There is actually three times as much pressure on the discs in your low back when you sit, compared to when you are standing.

Compounding this problem is the likelihood that prolonged sitting will cause your low back to sink into your seat, lose its natural curve, causing more stress on the joints, muscles, and discs in your low back.

A Lumbar Pillow is designed to provide support to your lower back, and maintain your lumbar curve. This means that using a lumbar back support pillow keeps your sitting posture from slouching, and thereby stressing and weakening your lower back.

Sitting for long periods is a major cause of low back pain. Using a good lumbar back support pillow will allow you to sit longer without tiring the muscles in your low back. You will be able to sit comfortably for a lot longer without doing yourself harm.

Let’s face it; most chairs today are not designed to provide your lower back the support it needs. The more sitting you do, the more at risk you are for developing low back pain.

Driving With a Lumbar Back Support Pillow

If you drive a lot you are forced to sit in a fixed position for long periods. This is especially bad for your low back. It often causes low back pain that will become chronic and worsen over time.

Using a lumbar Pillow prevents strain on your low back muscles, joints, and discs, by providing your back with support exactly where you need it.

I first started using a lumbar pillow when driving back and forth from home in Massachusetts to Chiropractic College in Davenport Iowa. This 22-24 hour drive was brutal on my low back the first few times I made the trip. My chiropractor suggested a lumbar pillow and it made a horribly long trip very manageable.

I always keep a lumbar pillow in my car now, and use it on all trips of more than a half an hour.

Whether you are commuting to work or going on a long driving vacation, a lumbar pillow will protect your low back and prevent a lot of unnecessary back pain.

This Lumbar Support Pillow can be used both in your chair at home and in your car. You can also bring it while traveling and it can make plane flights much more comfortable.

These pillows last a long time so you should certainly get your money’s worth over years of use.
