A Lumbar Support Pillow is something I give to more patients than any other support or brace.

The reason I give out so many Lumbar Pillows is that they allow you to maintain good posture and support your back while sitting.

Sitting for long periods of time causes your lower back to lose its normal forward curve.

Flattening of the normal lower back curve causes the back muscles to get tired and to weaken. Next, either back, leg, shoulder or neck pain will occur.

The Lumbar Support Pillow fills the space between your back and any chair or car seat. This pillow keeps you in a healthy sitting posture, which will prevent the back, shoulder, and neck muscles from becoming exhausted from the stress of prolonged sitting.

Many people spend a lot of time at a desk chair that doesn’t have enough support.

This leads to poor posture which stresses the muscles and joints in the back. Over time, this can cause low back, leg, shoulder,or neck pain.

Most people mistakenly think they are resting their body when they sit.

What they don’t realize is that although the pressure on the discs in the Low Back is four times higher when standing than when laying flat on their back, thepressure on the discs when sitting is almost three times higher than what it is standing.

The Lumbar Support Pillow that I recommend can be seen at this link Dr. Cliff’s Recommended Back Support Pillow where you can view a video showing how to best use a lumbar Pillow. Here is a picture of what the Freedom Back looks like.

The Freedom Back Pillow can be used both in your chair at home and in your car. You can also bring it while traveling and it can make plane flights much more comfortable. Another support pillow that I use a lot and costs a little less than the Freedom Back pillow above, can be purchased at amazon. Here is a link

This is a Memory Foam Lumbar Pillow made with high density pressure relieving European-style visco elastic memory foam, and includes a removable, washable cover.

These pillows last a long time so you should certainly get your money’s worth over the years of use you will get out of it.

Sitting is one of the most stressful positions for someone to be in for long periods of time

If you think about it, the sitting posture is almost the same posture as you would have bending straight over at the waist while standing, which, as you know, is a stressful posture for your body to be in.

The 90 degree angle between the hips and lower back is the same when severely bent over as it is when sitting.

Good posture while sitting is vital in preventing back pain .

Slouching at your desk or in your car will cause back pain.

Some lumbar Support Pillows come with a strap that you can use to tie the support pillow to a chair. I personally like my pillow without a tie down so that I can put it in just the right spot to support my lumbar curve.

Lumbar Support Pillows are an absolute requirement for long distance driving.

I always keep a lumbar Support Pillow in the back seat of my car.

I would never start a trip of more than an hour without making sure my pillow was in the car.

Most pillows are made out of foam that is covered in a cotton cloth sheath. The sheath can be taken off to wash as needed.

Some back support pillows are inflatable cushions. These inflatable pillows let you put in just the right amount of air to provide you the best support for your back.

To Your Best Health,

Dr. Cliff
