WHY DOES MY BACK HURT?

Why Does My Back Hurt? This is a question I’ve been asked a thousand times. Either that or “Doc, do you think you can help me?”

When the time comes when you or a loved one experiences a bad episode of back pain, there is little else you can focus on. Back pain will affect all aspects of your life, making it difficult to put in a day’s work, or even take proper care of yourself or your family.

The number of lost days from work due to back pain is staggering, and in today’s economy you really can’t afford not to be dependable. There are plenty of others who would love to have your job.

Before you head off to your doctor to ask her “why does my back hurt?” you may want to see if you can relieve your back pain with products that are easy to use at home.

In addition to using the above listed products which I have used with great success, there are a number of other important things you can do for back pain relief.

1. Reduce Stress: I know that this sounds too simple to have any value for you, but stress causes you to feel more pain. It is a scientific fact that stress causes more episodes of pain and more severe pain.

You must try to eliminate as much stress from your life as you can. You probably need to start saying "No" a lot more often. Trying to do too much in a day is contributing to your back pain.

A great natural stress reliever is regular exercise. Exercise not only reduces stress but it causes a release of endorphins which are your body’s natural pain killers.

2. Watch Your Posture: Poor posture causes back pain. The importance of good posture is not well understood, but good posture will help you with back pain relief and prevention. How to improve your posture is covered on my page on Upper Back Pain Causes http://www.back-pain-treatment-and-relief.com/upper-back-pain-causes.html

3. Regular Exercise: As mentioned above, exercise will relieve pain. The best type of exercise for pain relief is aerobic exercise. Things like brisk walking, jogging, biking, and swimming, for 20-30 minutes 3 to 5 times a week will make a huge difference in how you feel. The better physical shape you are in, the less likely you are to suffer a back injury.

If you’ve tried the products listed in the links above and followed the other recommendations and your back still hurts, it may be time to seek professional help.

It makes sense to try conservative care first. I would start with Chiropractic. Studies show better results and more patient satisfaction with chiropractic than any other profession that treats back pain.

There is also Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Naturopathy, and Homeopathy. All of these have had success with back pain.

If you are still asking why does my back hurt after a reasonable period of time, say 4-6 weeks, or, if your pain worsens over time, you should see your medical doctor.
